Caerleon, S. Wales, 2006

Our second Convention was held, once again, at Newport College, University of Wales. Despite slightly reduced numbers in part, no doubt, to choosing to host the Convention on the same day as England's first World Cup game, a great day was had by all.

Attendees came from England, Scotland and Wales - as well from the Czech Republic and Finland - to learn new tricks, share knowledge, make new friends, and show off their skills.

Competition winners were:
Beginners:
1st Place: Anke Kante.
2nd Place: Cyril Chapman. Cyril should also get a special mention for being the Britain's only octogenarian whip cracker. He puts the rest of us to shame!
Intermediates:
1st Place: Rob Wilkes.
2nd Place: Jo Fox.
Advanced:
1st Place: Major Horton.
2nd Place: A closely fought contest between Peter Gamble and Ari Luanne ended in a tie-breaker, with Ari managing one more cut than Pete.

A few comments from attendees:

It's really great talking with and meeting all you guys. It's always good seeing other people performing and it's amazing how many little hints and tips you can pick up. You're always learning! - Jim, Scotland.

What a wonderful day out! Just the right amount of organisation - everything went without a hitch, and it was freeform enough to have fun learning, watching and chatting. A lot of fun. - Doug, Bristol

It was wonderful! I finally managed to hit something with a whip, watched awesome displays of whip cracking, met lots of great people, and in the end, just to top it all, actually won THE most beautiful whip. ....Thank you all so much for making the event possible.... - Anke, Bristol

All the people, great time together, everything is worth of BIG THANX! Of course time was way too short to be there but more time next time! - Ari, Finland

Special thanks to Pete - MC and Organiser supreme, ... It was our pleasure to meet everyone there and enjoy the different styles and routines being practiced. I was especially looking forward to meeting Ari and I was not disappointed (I will be practicing the plate cutting trick next week). A pleasure to meet the group from the Checz Republic and a special mention for Jim who travelled down from Scotland, awesome two-handed routine with those stock whips mate - Major & Sue, Midlands
